Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The third edition emphasizes a concentrated revision of Parts II & III (leaving Part I virtually intact). The larger sections will show greater elaboration of the basic concepts of stochastic processes, typical sequences of random variables, and a greater emphasis on realistic methods of spectral estimation and analysis. There are problems, exercises, and applications throughout. Aimed at senior graduate students in electrical engineering, math, and physics departments.

5 out of 5 stars Brief but complete, With proofs but parsimonious ones   April 23, 1999

If you have taken a typical EE signals and systems course, you might well enjoy this book as a refresher or reference (most of part I). Esp., the brevity but higher rigor of proofs is appreciated. A lot of part I and all of part II contain advanced sigs. & sys. material, and part III is a admittedly brief presentation of random processes, and estimation, etc. The strength of the book as a learning device is parts I-II. As a ref. the entire book is worthwhile.

5 out of 5 stars outstanding technical monograph   November 11, 2007

I term this a "monograph" because it reads as a series of investigations into specific applications of signal processing (heavily oriented toward spectrum and moment analysis) within numerous areas: biomedical, oceanographic, and so forth. Despite the author's claims, the degree of mathematical sophistication exhibited in the text is refreshing. There is much to be found here, extremely concisely summarized. As such, the text can readily serve as a refresher course that brings the mathematically astute professional up to date with material he may not have accessed for years.

Come to think of it, given today's students--who grew up in a world where praise is automatic rather than earned, where one lacks the attention span to spend more than ten seconds without one's headphones, etc.--I don't believe anyone under thirty can make use of this text. It requires an electrical engineer actually to have earned his credentials.
