Reviewed and purchased other books. This book was an excellent choice for anyone looking for instruction for the IPod Touch or new IPhone. Easy access to specific information as well as tips and tricks. If you are not familiar with other IPods or similar technology, I highly recommend this guide.The iPod touch Pocket Guide

Like most Apple documentation, the down-loadable ipod touch User Guide is written in broken English by someone who seems to have read the software specs in great detail but never actually seen the device. So, of necessity, I looked at a lot of third-party iPhone and iPod books before settling on this one. Most of the others replicated the information from the Apple documentation with some improvements in style -- and lots of superfluous pictures. Breen's book is the only one I found that extends the Apple material, giving information and outlining procedures with the hands-on feel of someone who actually used the device. So five stars for a providing the one useful book in the pack.
But minus one, down to four stars because of the amount of unnecessary (such as how to open the box, and how to put an earbud into your ear) and duplicated (from the Apple docs, and from itself) information, which means having to pay $14 for $6 worth of new and useful information.
Finally, minus one more, down to three stars for Breen's infuriating style. I don't know how many seven year-olds will own an iPod touch and buy this book, but Breen seems to believe that they constitute the majority of his readership. The flyleaf says that he has been writing for Mac users for years, and maybe that style works for them. For me, the over-simplistic language and puerile jokes were a painful price to get the information in the book. And there's the rub, you have to pay the price, because this painful read is nevertheless the best iPod touch book in a very bad bunch.

While the iPod Touch Pocket Guide is pretty well developed, it is really not a good enough guide for the uninitiated. The author uses terms, acronyms, etc. that those not really steeped in technical Mac stuff will understand. I was hoping for a guide for "dummies" that I could use, but have had to order another one which appears to more closely meet my needs...I hope it will.
